WEC in Brazil runs an English program for new members, especially for the ones who have finished their Candidate Orientation and joined WEC. The English program is run every year, usually from August to December, but sometimes also from March to July. Having native English speakers help teach the course is ideal.
The English classes are in the morning and afternoon (9:00 -12:00 and 14.00 to 17.00) from Monday to Friday. Of course, there's a break at 10am and at 3.30pm for coffee. Weekends are free. We will also give the teachers time to prepare the classes during these hours.
Applicants must ideally speak English as their first language and have a TEFL certificate, BUT we are also open and flexible to non-native speakers without a certificate – in this case we would like to make an interview beforehand.
Other Requirements: As Brazil is basically a monolingual culture the applicant must learn some Portuguese just to get by so he/she can go to the supermarket, pharmcacy, use an uber, got to the cinema, etc. by themselves.
Teaching English is one aspect of the ministry. Other things would be attending WEC events, and being involved in practical work whenever is needed. Specially on days when we clean the facilities!
You would live at the WEC Support Branch and have your own room with bathroom and shared kitchen and living space.
You need to be in good physical, emotional and spiritual health to carry on with the daily routine. We recommend the teachers to arrive some weeks before the English Program starts for preparation and adapting time.
A tourist visa is valid for 3 months and there is the possibility to extend it for 3 more months. Most nationalities don't need a visa to come to Brazil, but others do need to apply for one beforehand.
