Thai lady on motorbike

"But I just had to come back"

What does the beginning of faith look like?

This short account is being passed around and shared by Wayne and Miriam Cowpland.

"One of the joys of meeting with our teams across Europe is hearing great stories. Let us leave you with this story from one of our workers who served in Thailand.

He told of a young Thai woman who had come to their small church, drawn in by the sound of them worshipping. She wept as they sang, even though she didn’t really understand the words.

The next week she came back, riding a motorbike. The following week she came again, this time riding a bicycle. Someone asked her where her motorbike was and she answered:

‘Oh my family found out that I had come to church and they didn’t want me to come, so they took away the keys for my bike. But I just HAD to come back.’

The next week she came on foot, walking 7 km from her home. Someone asked her ‘Where is your bike?’, and she replied:

‘My family found out that I came on the bike, so they took it away, but I HAD to come to church, so I walked.’

The following week she was in church again, this time in bare feet. Before anyone could ask she explained:

‘They hid my shoes, but I just walked all the way in my bare feet. I HAD to be here.’

The next Sunday she came on her motorbike and with joy shared:

‘My family have realised that nothing will stop me from coming to church, so here I am!’

A few weeks later she came to faith.

Isn’t that wonderful, and also challenging! Is that how we feel about being with God’s people on a Sunday and worshipping Him together? May nothing keep us from that. "

Such a great reminder of our journey finding Jesus and nothing is going to separate us from the love of God.
