Because we believe God wants there to be local churches among unreached peoples. A local church is God's community in which people find ultimate fulfilment and spiritual destiny. It's the community through which he reveals himself to the world.
Furthermore, we see that Jesus and Paul and many others in the New Testament did this as a template for us to do - as well as commanding us to do likewise.
There are 3 key processes:
- Share the stories of Jesus (Evangelism).
- Walk alongside those who are seeking him (Discipleship).
- Gather these seekers into communities of faith that we call 'church'.
WEC believes that cross cultural ministry should be catalytic: our presence starts a reaction that leads to local movements of people into faith communities.
WEC has a ministry presence in more than 100 people groups in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Central Asia, the South Pacific and Latin America. Some WEC Centres primarily facilitate the sending of cross-cultural workers from local churches, while others catalyse new churches among unreached people groups. Click here for some of our current opportunities for service, or here for a map with the regions we work in.
A unreached people group is an ethno-linguistic group of which less than two percent are evangelical. It has understanding and/or acceptance barriers (See also this article: What is a people group?)
For most Christians in Australia, God faithfully provides through a job, business, pension or some sort of economic activity. People in WEC, however, perform a service that generally does not produce an income, either for themselves or for WEC - WEC Australia does not pay a wage to any WEC missionaries. All people serving with WEC are volunteers, some full and others part time.As they share their vision for the world with churches, small groups and individuals, God faithfully provides financial support for our workers.
Take a look at this site: www.myptm.com.au - it's a site where we've put together a whole lot of resources and articles on common questions and issues that people have when they're thinking about missions. MYPTM stands for 'My Pathway To Mission', and our goal of the site is to help you find your pathway to mission - so let us know if it's been helpful.
Feel free too to get in touch with a mobiliser in your state (see here for details), we'd love to give you a call or have a coffee together to chat.
WEC stands for 'Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ' and reflects our desire to give the remaining unreached peoples of the world an opportunity to respond to the gospel.
