A Christian Dialogue with Muslims (Dr J Dudley Woodberry)
Since Muslims are the second largest religious group outside the Christian Church and are growing, are involved along with Christians in many of the political, social, and religious tensions that engulf our world, and like Christians contain in their Scriptures a universal missionary mandate, Christian pastors, missionaries, and lay leaders need understanding of Muslims for sensitive and relevant life and witness among them.
In this seminar students will receive an overview of Muslim faith and practice and their varieties of expression, with special attention to comparisons with Christianity, historical and contemporary interaction between Muslims and Christians, and implications for Christian life and ministry among Muslims.
Upon completion of this course, they should (1) have a basic understanding of Muslims in their variety from insiders’ and outside scholars’ perspectives, (2) know the essential similarities and differences between Muslim and Christian faith and practice, (3) understand essential tensions and aspirations of contemporary Muslims, (4) develop a biblical perspective of life and ministry among Muslims.
