Language teacher asks to read Bible

A WEC church planter in the Middle East is reading a local language Bible with her language teacher.

“My language helper is a devout young woman with an interest in spiritual things,” said Ellie.

“It was her suggestion that we read the Bible together!”

“I was already reading the book of Romans which I could continue to read by myself, but it is such a precious thing to read it with her.”

“She asks gift questions like ‘Why did Abraham’s son need to die?’ and ‘Why is Jesus coming back?', and she really wants to hear the answers.”

“The book of Romans lends itself to explaining the gospel over and over again.”

Ellie asks for prayer that God will reveal himself to this woman, perhaps in a dream.

“It is often the devout ones, searching for a deeper relationship with God, whom the Lord reveals himself to,” said Ellie.

Ellie is now working with a local believer to record the story of Ruth onto CD in the local language, after the project was halted when there was no one to narrate the story.

“The Lord prompted us to ask a local believer who, as we understood it, had objected to the story for use in a Muslim context,” she said.

“We visited and asked, and she responded with joy.”

“Just that morning she had prayed to God that he would give her an opportunity to serve him.”

The woman is an experienced story-teller and has already learnt thirty-five Bible stories.

“She said God’s word is God’s word and we should tell the story as it is,” said Ellie.

Ellie has just begun helping a local English teaching institute with conversation classes.

“Students are often very interested to talk about faith, so I pray there will be some divine opportunities,” she said.
